Huge increase in driving violations in the UAE on the first day of Ramadan. Excessive speed and tailgating were widely reported in the UAE just before Iftar time.
This led to traffic jams and accidents. About two hours before Iftar, there was a huge increase in the number of vehicles going to Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and other emirates.
Police also monitored the route of motorists. The journey from Dubai to Sharjah was disrupted by noon.
Multiple collisions were also reported, creating bumper-to-bumper conditions from 3pm to 7pm.
More police patrols will be deployed in the coming days of Ramadan.
Large Iftar crowds on the first day of Ramadan prompted police to deploy large groups of patrols across the emirates to improve security and ensure smooth traffic.
Dubai police have asked motorists to be patient, drive safely and exercise restraint.
Several minor accidents have been reported on Etihad Road, Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, Emirates Road and other major highways in Sharjah such as Al Wahda.
Heavy traffic was reported on Etihad Road from Deira City Center to the Taoun Interchange in Sharjah.
Police have drawn up a comprehensive traffic safety plan in Sharjah.
The Traffic Department is making every effort to ensure smooth traffic and prevent accidents and violations that are common during Ramadan, said Brigadier General Ahmed Saeed Al Nour, Director General of Central Operations at Sharjah Police.Police are urging children not to be allowed to leave their homes, especially before Iftar, to prevent accidents on residential buildings, interior roads and public parks.
In Ajman, more than 40 patrol teams were deployed to patrol the roads 24 hours a day during the holy month. The Ajman Police Traffic and Patrol Unit also said that most of the accidents they reported were due to speeding during the Iftar rush hour.
