UAE: Man ordered to pay Dh5,000 compensation over abusive WhatsApp voice note to couple

Ras Al Khaimah Civil Court has ordered the complainant to pay 5,000 dirhams for sending an abusive message on WhatsApp.

The Arab plaintiff filed the case alleging that the accused used abusive language to insult himself and his wife in a WhatsApp voice message.

The court found the accused guilty on the basis of the statements of the complainant and the confession of the accused.

The court held that the plaintiff had suffered emotional and moral damages because of defendant's voice message.

Defendant allegedly confessed to sending an abusive audio message to the young man's wife. He also admitted to the Public Prosecution that he used abusive language against the plaintiff.

Therefore the court ordered the defendant to pay plaintiff Dh5,000 in compensation as well as legal expenses and fees.
