UAE: Residents warned against drying clothes on balconies; violators face Dh1,000 fine

Abu Dhabi Municipality warns residence against drying clothes washed on balconies of apartments.
They should not be hung on windowsills, balconies or on railings as they may distort the appearance of the city.
Abu Dhabi City Municipality has been warned to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining the aesthetic appearance of the city as part of the Virtual Awareness Campaign and the importance of following proper rules regarding proper etiquette for washing and drying in public places.And maintain the appearance of the city
The municipality's campaign aims to prevent unhygienic washing and drying.
The Dubai Municipality said in a statement that displaying laundry on the balcony of an apartment, hanging from awindow or distorting the image of the building from the railing is not permissible.
Officials said residents should avoid hanging their clothes on anyhow and make sure their balcony does not become civic issue or eyesore.
People have been urged to adopt modern alternative laundry-drying techniques, such as electronic washing machines and drying racks, to avoid hanging laundry directly above the balustrade directly facing the street.

The city council had earlier warned that misuse of the balcony could result in a fine of 1,000 dirhams and more.
